Job interviews can be one of the most daunting things and a scary experience, but the best way to deal with it is doing proper preparations by practicing answers to some common interview questions.

We are going to look at the different types of questions you can expect to get when you go for an interview and offer advice you can use when you answer the question, which will help you land the job.

So it’s time to prepare. Do you feel overwhelmed by the things you will need to do? You should not switch to panic mode. Take a deep breath and relax. We have broken it down so you can an easier time digesting.

Provided you do a proper preparation for this questions, you should be able to handle any difficult questions they might throw at you (Which normally happens)

What? These are commonly the opening questions - but you need to expect ‘you based’ questions to pop up throughout the interview.

Why? These questions have been designed to get more information about you; your experience, your personality, and your knowledge. Personality is important because they are not looking to work with a person who is not able to get along with them. This is as important as your experience, making it important to market yourself!

There are also a number of questions you should ask according to DST

Questions about your knowledge and work experience

What? This is the point where things start to get a little more involved because the interviewer wants to find more about you. This questions will form the majority of questions you get on your first interview, the second ones will be a little different.

Why? These questions have been designed to dig a little bit deeper in order to know whether you got the skills needed to do the job. Do you have the right knowledge to fit right? Do they have to train you? Is your experience a good fit?

Questions why you want the job

What? This is a great thing because they ask it when they already like you. They are looking to find out whether you like them, which is a great sign.

Why? The questions have been designed to find out whether you are serious about the job; this is because there is nothing worse than having to start looking for other candidates for the job because the person who they offered was still not sure.

Competency-based interview questions

What? These are the tricky ones because they will get you really thinking.
Why? The questions have been designed to find out whether you can back up what you are saying. These type of questions are usually common in the second interviews because they want to provide an explanation of how you are going to handle different situations by using past examples from your experiences.
