Tips for a Career as an Engineer

Why should I Consider working in Engineering?
Engineering can be seen in nearly all aspect of our lives. This ranges from the cars we drive to work with to building where we live and work in, and the satellites that enables communication and read on the internet the way you are doing now. All of these is thanks to engineers.

The key areas that cover engineering are mechanical, civil, electrical, manufacturing, chemical, and the area you work in will depend on the area of engineering that you have chosen to study for or specialize.

These areas are usually separate, making it important to be a little more involved in choosing an area that will be able to help you achieve a successful career.

In the UK the industry is very big because there are over 800,000 engineers being employed by more than 6,000 organisations. Careers in engineering will range a wide range of sectors. Even with this number there is still a shortage, which makes for great job prospects according to Fircroft.

For example, the oil and gas sector. The increase in oil prices have made it possible for the UK oil industry to invest more in drilling uneconomic deposits off the coast and this meant a high demand for qualified engineers from different disciplines.

Another sector that is emerging fast is the renewable energy sector. There has been a lot of focus on climate change on the political level, and this has created a high demand for engineers in order to come up with low carbon technologies and help in expanding wind, wave, nuclear, and biomass power.

In other areas, the UK aerospace sector has been able to create the largest demand in the world because of many key projects that are being done and this has meant demand for engineers. This is the same thing that can be seen in the world of construction, given that there are many cities and towns across the country that are constantly undergoing regeneration.

The benefits of working in this industry are one of the biggest attraction: The first thing is the salary because newly qualified engineers will earn more compared to what other sectors are going to get, and following the right career path will mean earning over £50,000 a year. The earnings are higher for Engineering Technicians and Chartered and Incorporated Engineers.

There are many opportunities for engineers throughout the country and there are many specialist hubs coming up. The chemical manufacturing sectors are concentrated in the North West, while the tech sector is largely centred in Oxford, Cambridge and London. There many organizations which are in the engineering field that will provide even more opportunities to work on projects abroad.
