The simple answer is that no you don’t, because the bar or pub that you’re applying to work for will already have a designated premises supervisor (DPS) who will hold one, meaning that nobody else who works there needs to.
Another common myth is that there has to be a DPS on the premises at all time when alcohol is being sold.
However, this also isn’t true. As long as the DPS can easily be contacted, there doesn’t need to be a member of staff on site who holds a licence.

If nothing else, it’ll help you gain a better appreciation of the responsibility that you have as somebody selling alcohol to the public, which can only help you to do your job better, and at the end of the day, it’s a permanent qualification which you can stick on your CV, because it won’t expire!
What’s also great is that they’re pretty easy to obtain. Sometimes your place of work will put on a workshop where a few people will gain the qualification, but if you want to obtain one for yourself, you have a couple of options.
